Three consecutive bullish candles similar to Three White Soldiers, but the third candle has a long upper shadow. It indicates weakening upward momentum and is known as a false pattern for Three White Soldiers. The third candle's small body and long upper shadow signify increasing selling pressure at highs. Careful attention to the upper shadow length is needed to avoid confusing it with Three White Soldiers.

Formation Conditions

  • A downtrend or consolidation must precede the pattern
  • Three consecutive bullish candles must appear
  • Each candle's close must be higher than the previous close
  • The bodies must progressively decrease in size from second to third
  • The third bullish candle must have a long upper shadow
  • The third candle's upper shadow must be at least as long as its body

Entry Condition

Enter short at the next candle's open after the third candle confirms with a long upper shadow. Verify the shadow length is at least equal to the body.

Target Calculation

Project the combined range of the three bullish candles downward from the third candle's close. Or target near the first candle's open.

Stop Loss Rule

Place a stop-loss slightly above the third candle's upper shadow high.

Volume Profile

If volume increases on the third candle yet the upper shadow is long, it indicates strong selling pressure at highs, enhancing pattern reliability.

False Signal Detection

  • A short upper shadow may mean it functions as regular Three White Soldiers
  • During a strong uptrend, it may remain a temporary correction
  • If volume decreases across all three candles, direction is unclear
  • Near a major support line, downside may be limited
  • If the next day opens above the third candle's close, the pattern may be negated
